WiseTrader Toolbox

Adaptive Indicators

The WiseTrader Toolbox includes a family of adaptive indicators — indicators whose look-back period is not fixed but adjusts automatically to current market conditions. Instead of always averaging the last 20 bars, an adaptive indicator can shorten its period in fast, volatile markets and lengthen it in steady trends, using an adaptor to drive the change.

This section explains the two building blocks behind these indicators:

  • Adaptors Introduction — what an adaptor is, the different adaptors available (Trend Filter VHF, Statistical, Homodyne Discriminator, Hilbert Transform, Dominant Cycle, SNR, Enhanced SNR and R Squared) and the parameters that control them.
  • Smoother Introduction — how the smoothing options work.
Note

The standard indicators built into AmiBroker cannot accept a variable look-back, which is why only the indicators included in the toolbox can be adaptive.
